Hop it, Pret! Bunny Chow is latest trend
Forget Pret baguettes. A street food firm hopes hungry Londoners will soon be ordering a Bunny Chow – a South African dish of curry served inside a hollowed out loaf of bread, below. The company, also called Bunny Chow, is set to launch as a premium food outlet “on par with Pret A Manger and Eat”. It will set up 19 London outlets in five years, beginning with Wardour Street in Soho, after it won backing from C & C Alpha Group Ltd.
Bunny Chow started as a food truck in Brixton Market last year, before moving to premises at Box Park in Shoreditch. The “bunnies” themselves originated in the Indian community of Durban in the Forties. The new menu will include breakfast, lunch and dinner options, ranging from smoked salmon and scrambled eggs to chicken tikka, coconut prawn and rendang.
