Locally designed, built with local materials, and serving up local seafood and rum, Shanti Maurice – A Nira Resort provides an authentic Mauritius experience all wrapped up in an uncomplicated, chic package.

Seemingly cut from some sexy Hollywood fantasy of Mauritius, Shanti Maurice manages to keep things real while looking flawless. A myriad of pleasures sit at the ready, ranging from core-twisting kayaking on the Indian Ocean, to challenging-yet-approachable golf at the South African-designed Le Golf du Chateau. That’s not to mention the Nira Spa, where guests can limber up (physically and mentally) with yoga, massage, and meditation.

61 rooms, suites, and villas range from the Junior Ocean View Suites, to the massive Presidential Villa (also fit for dictators, kings, queens, sultans, etc.) Interiors are filled with natural elements including local hardwoods, granite, marble, and slate.

South African dishes reign supreme at the resort’s flagship restaurant, Stars. For something a bit lighter, visit Pebbles for a Creole-spiced salad. Red Ginger is the place to be for anytime cocktails, and the Fish and Rhum Shack serves rustic barbecued fish and locally-distilled rum with a smile.

Shanti Maurice is located at St. Felix on the south coast of Mauritius. It is a 40-minute drive east of Plaisance Airport, which offers flights to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Reviews:

Service and staff were attentive to all our needs and the experience exceptional. Overall a very calm and intimate destination.
rooms and bathrooms excellent. food is good but not exceptional. Good gym and spa facilities. Also close to a top rated golf course

“Paradise for a week.”

We chose the Shanti for its location on the South coast and its five star delux plus qualities, unaware initially of its world status. Everything surpassed our expectations. The hotel is set in stunning grounds, with a beautiful coral reef and pristine sandy beach. Our villa was extremely opulent, with stunning sea views, huge bathrooms and wonderful decor. The quality of food and restaurant variation was excellent and the chauffeur service and trips available was immeasurable. We did the North and South tour with Jessen, who was a superb wealth of information about the island and really made the tours very special. The spa was set in a delightful garden and offered treatments of a superior quality. The Fish and Rhum shack Mauritian evening is a must. The management should be proud of its friendly and efficient staff, as our holiday was made even more delightful by meeting such lovely people who were extremely attentive to our every need. Furthermore, we were overwhelmed by the generosity of the departure time from the villa, as we had an evening flight. We would love to return to the Shanti Maurice in the near future.

The Shanti Maurice came out a clear winner when choosing where to go for our honeymoon based on lots of research which promised a peaceful location set within some of the most natural parts of Mauritius, within an establishment which valued health and wellbeing as one of the worlds leading Spa resorts. All very up my street, and we were not disappointed in any of these respects. I would add to those features however that the food offered at both breakfast and dinner (we were on a half board package) was all absolutely phenomenal, and the service and attention to detail which all the staff deliver is exceptional.
