Hyatt Pune joined hands with the children of SMILE foundation for a cook-off
The children thoroughly enjoyed this unique culinary experience and so did the chef participants and guests. The kids excitedly waited for their turn to pick a chit to choose a chef participant that they would be paired with to prepare a meal for the guests. This unique event, which took place at Hyatt Pune, Kalayinagar, on Saturday, October 15, witnessed the pairing of chef participants from the corporate world of Pune with children from SMILE foundation to showcase their culinary expertise and passion for food in a cook-off.
The initiative called the Hyatt Culinary Challenge is their version of ‘people cooking for people’ and the event will be held across select Hyatt Hotels in India this month. For this event, Hyatt India has partnered with SMILE foundation and a child from the Foundation is paired with a chef participant for the cook-off. The corporate winner from each city will compete at the grand finale in Chandigarh in November.
Sumit Kumar, general manager, Hyatt Pune, says, “We have entered into the third year of the event and it has been a wonderful experience. The children who participated in the last season volunteered to be a part of this year’s event too. Kids had to choose a chit from the bowl to select a chef they would be paired with and after selecting their partner, they embarked on a 90-minute cooking challenge. The guest chefs had already decided on the dish that they would cook and the kids helped them in preparing the dish. The winner was decided on the basis of taste, hygiene and presentation of the dish.”
You could feel the excitement of the kids participating in the event. The children cautiously chopped the vegetables and observed the chef while focussing on the dishes and actively asked for the tasks that they could perform. The chefs too got busy creating unique and delectable delicacies to charm the guests. Kamal Kakkar, who participated with Tushar from the SMILE foundation, prepared a quirky dish called ‘The Bird’s Nest’, which drew a lot of attention. In the next bay, Usha Poonawalla prepared Minced Chicken, popularly known as Kheema. Her child partner Maliram was too shy to talk and kept himself busy dicing the capsicum.
While Ayan Datta emerged as the winner of the competition held in Pune, the children impressed their guests with their hard work and brought smiles on the faces of those present at the event.
